Last weekend I turned on the TV and Discovery was showing some show about the Everglades. The noises being played through my surround sound setup drove Vandy nuts. She kept trying to find where all of them were coming from. Then she noticed there was a big bird on the TV. I was able to rewind and get her to react again, this time I was recording it.

More GOP Lies

I came across this AP story. It basically fact checks the claims made by various people in their RNC speaches. It should come as no surprise that they lied… Again.

Looks like they’re still going to tell lies and fear monger people into voting Republican. So much for the McCain’s “Straight Talk Express.” I wish America would wake up and stop falling victim to these tactics.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a liberal and a registered Democrat. I find many of the things the GOP does to be morally wrong, unethical, and even just plain stupid.

The 2008 RNC has been no exception to this.

Bigger Better Beer

Treah and I went to Pittsburgh today. On the way home I decided to stop at a beer distributor and pick up a case of Yuengling for our tailgate next weekend. You can’t buy Yuengling in WV, so it’s always a treat to have around.

When I got home I realized my mistake. I bought a case of twelve 32 ounce bottles. Oops. I guess the tailgate will be fun after a few of these bigger beers.

WVU is having a free “e-cycling” event tomorrow. They’re only asking for 1 canned food item per item you bring in. I plan on taking full advantage of this event. I just got done loading up my jeep with all of my old computer and electronics. It only took me about 2 hours to do it. Here’s the end result:

I don’t think the picture does it justice so here’s a list of what I got rid of:

9 desktop pc’s
3 CRT monitors
3 Printers
2 Stereos
5 Keyboards
2 Sets of computer speakers
2 Pairs of stereo speakers

Now I just have to find room to put 26 cans of food.

OSX 10.5 Printing to Windows Printer

I still have 1 windows computer left on my home network. It is in our living room and has the printer plugged into it. I had Treah’s macbook setup to print to it in 10.4. It was a pain to setup and required setting up several virtual queues on the windows machine (see this how to for more info). Needless to say I was not happy to see that following the 10.5 upgrade the printer was missing from her computer. Setting this up in 10.5 was much easier and was able to talk directly to the printer, I was able to delete all of the virtual queues. Although easier, it still wasn’t as straight forward as I would like for it to be. Here’s what I had to do.

I went to set up the printer and noticed a new windows option in the printer preferences. I thought this looked promising, however the add printer button was disabled:

I started to click around trying to figure out how to get this option enabled. I never found it. I did find something even better. If you right click on the toolbar you’ll see a customize option, this will pop up a screen allowing you to add and remove icons from the toolbar. One of the icons available to add was labeled “Advanced”. Drag and drop this icon to your toolbar and click done.

Now that you have the Advanced icon, click on it. After letting your Mac think for a couple seconds, you will be presented with the following form:

Change the type to windows, fill in the url as “smb://user:pass@remote_computer/printer_share_name”. You can fill in the Name and Location fields to be whatever you want. The only thing left is to pick you driver and hit add.

If all goes well you can now print to your windows shared printer.
