I caught this on TV this weekend. I thought it did a good job showing off the new scoreboard.

Auburn Eve

This time tomorrow I’ll be at the WVU vs Auburn Football game. I honestly don’t know how it will turn out. Both teams have sub par offenses and great defenses. Both teams were ranked at the beginning of the season, and now neither are. WVU and Auburn have never played football against each other, so we can’t look at past performance.

My prediction is that if WVU’s offense can click the game won’t be close. If they don’t click, it will be a low scoring game and a defensive battle.

The game will also be a “Gold Rush.” This is where WVU tries to get everyone to wear gold. It does look impressive on TV. Here’s a screen grab some one on the bluegoldnews.com forums posted of last year’s Gold Rush. I’m going to try and get a HDTV screen grab of this year’s game.

Here’s hoping everything goes as planned tomorrow. After all, I did beat Auburn 84-0 on the PlayStation last week.

The Treadmill

This was on Sports Center today. I thought it was pretty good. I’m glad I don’t have to run on the treadmill.

Sweet 16

WVU knocked off Duke today to earn a spot in the Sweet 16. In the post game radio coverage they mentioned that the team would be traveling back to Morgantown tonight via bus and if people wanted to meet them they should be at the Coliseum at 10:00.

Jason and I showed up just before 10:00 and only had to wait a couple minutes before the bus pulled up. I was a bit underwhelmed by the crowd. I’d say that maybe 50 to 100 people showed up. Much less than previous seasons.

Anyway, as a result of the small crowd I was able to meet one of my favorite Mountaineers, Joe Alexander.

WVU is back in the NCAA tournament where it belongs. We play Thursday night at 9:40pm EST on CBS.

What Happened?

Last night I witnessed the worst WVU basketball in my lifetime. WVU lost 62-39, at home!! WVU hasn’t scored less than 40 points since February 6, 1980. This was the 2nd lowest scoring game for WVU at the Coliseum. According to the box score we only made 11 shots. We were 10/50 from the field, and 1/22 from the 3 point line. If we had not gone 18/24 from the free throw line (10/10 from Nichols alone), we would have been ever worse off. I’m not not sure what was wrong, but I hope we can shake it off and get back to playing ball like I know we can.

If any good game out of the game it is that coach Huggins got a new gold suit. This man has quite the sense of style.

I’m glad to see that most of the voters agree that Rodriguez is to blame.

I’m sure everyone has heard by now the Mountaineers are 1 win away from the national title game. This makes the upcoming Back Yard Brawl against Pitt even more exciting.

I think that the late great Jack Fleming had it right:

Given WVU’s successful season and that Pitt sucks, I’m thinking we’ll be OK.

Safari Debug Menu

I rarely use Safari to browse the web. I’m a Firefox fan. There is just something to be said for software that will run on any machine I sit down at, OS X, Ubuntu, Solaris, Windows, etc.

That being said I recently came across a website that required Safari for OS X users. This was annoying, but I fired up Safari and browsed back to the page. Then I got an error message telling me I needed to be on at least Safari 2 to view the page. This was obviously a case of the web master not staying up to date, as I was running Safari 3. I was pretty disappointed about this as the page is doing live video streaming of 3 upcoming WVU basketball games that are on the road and will not be on TV.

Fast forward to this evening. My co-worker told me I could download an application that would enable a debug menu in Safari that would let me change my user agent string. I thought this was a cool idea, but didn’t really want to install an app if I didn’t have to. So I started doing some research on how I could accomplish the same thing. My guess was that it was just a system preference that I would need to set in the terminal. The app was probably doing this in the background, transparent to the user.

I was right. I turns out this hack was discovered back in 2003.

Here is what you need to do to get your debug menu in Safari.

If Safari is running close it. Make sure you quit the application, not just close the window.
Open the terminal.
type:
$ defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Open Safari again
Enjoy your new menu

If you want to take the menu out, do the same steps, except change step 3 from a 1 to a 0.

Sure enough after enabling this menu, I was able to change my user agent string. The website thought I was on Safari 2, and the content loaded as it should. Looks like I’ll be able to watch the Mountaineers after all.
